§ 3-28. Impoundment—When required.

  • It shall be the duty of the city's animal control officer to apprehend any dog found running at large contrary to provisions of this chapter and to impound all unlicensed dogs in a designated location. Furthermore, if the city or its agent has reason to believe a dog is suffering from neglect as defined in section 3-1, the city may request an order from the judge to either remove the animal from its present custody or order the owner of the animal to provide certain care to the animal at the owner's expense.

    The city or its agent upon receiving a dog shall make a complete registry, entering the breed, color and sex of such dog and whether licensed. If licensed, the city shall enter the name and address of the owner and the number of the license tag and shall issue a notice of violation to the owner.
